This text is intended for a calculus-based introductory physics course for science and engineering students. Ideally, students should have completed one semester of calculus. However, calculus may also be taken concurrently. Derivativesare used sparingly in the early chapters in Mechanics, and integrals appear for the first time in Chapter 7 (Work and Energy)but are not crucial for the understanding of basic concepts.

This 4th. edition of University Physics incorporates several changes meant to enhance the appeal and effectiveness of thetext and includes several new applications of Physics in Science, Engineering and everyday life. Despite the addition of newmaterial this 4th. edition remains relatively short.

Now to This Edition
● New Layout: The page layout and artwork have been revamped and updated.
● Self-Test: each chapter now includes a short Self-Test with complete solutions provided at the back of the book. This feature is meant to give the student some feedback on how well the material in each chapter has been absorbed.
● Study Guide: A Study Guide is available online to students. It provides a major point and a brief review of each chapter and a selection of completely worked-out exercises and problems from the textbook along with additional worked-outexamples.
Contemporary Topics:
●● Chapter 44 on Elementary Particles in the earlier editions has been removed from the print version and is now availableonline.
●● A new Chapter 45 on CONTEMPORARY TOPICS has been added. It presents both the principles and applications of a wide variety of modern topics: Light Emitting Diodes (LED), Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD), Thermoelectricity, Carbon Nanotubes, Quantum Dots, Graphene, The Space Elevator, Quantum Computing and The Physics of Flight.

1.Accuracy: to ensure that physics is free of even subtle misconceptions.
2.Writing Style: to write in a simple, clear, and concise manner. This approach applies as much to the language as to the presentation of mathematics and the notation used.
3.Pedagogy: focus on central issues and highlight as few equations as possible.
4.Questions, Exercises and Problems: include 2440 exercises and 560 problems, in addition, there are conceptual questions and additional exercises. Both the exercises and the problems are graded according to two levels of difficulty: I and II.
